Routine eye examination

The standard BVA eye scheme examination, screening for inherited and acquired eye disorders.

Assessment of the eye's drainage angle to gauge inherited glaucoma risk, graded on a three-point scale.

Screening puppies aged 5–12 weeks for congenital hereditary conditions before they leave for new homes.

Four steps to a tested dog

  1. Book & pay deposit

    Choose your test and secure the appointment with a £25 non-refundable deposit.

  2. Complete registration

    Fill in your dog's registration details within 3 days, or the appointment may be cancelled.

  3. Bring your certificate

    Bring your Royal Kennel Club or ISDS registration certificate to the appointment.

  4. Examination & certificate

    Iona examines your dog and issues the certificate. The balance is paid on the day, by card.

Testing a group? There's a better route.

For 25 or more dogs we arrange group testing at a reduced per-dog rate — gonioscopy grading you can breed on, plus litter and annual re-testing in a single visit. Tell us your numbers and we'll plan it with you.

Iona Mathieson is an RCVS-certified veterinary ophthalmologist who also teaches the next generation of vets at the University of Liverpool.
